Come to Helsingborg and build the city of the future!
A lot is happening on the urban development front in Helsingborg, from expanding existing areas to creating entirely new neighbourhoods. Our urban development projects vary from a port relocation, creating Sweden’s most child-friendly neighbourhood, to building 1,500 homes in commuter convenient locations.
Since the Helsingborg exhibition the H55 housing fair, we have fought to create something out of the ordinary. We do this because we believe that good environments generate quality of life for those who live and work there. In several of our urban development projects, there is room for external stakeholders to participate and influence.

Oceanhamnen – a brand new district in the city centre
In Oceanhamnen, located in the city centre, we are building a new district with housing, offices, restaurants and hotels. The area has a significant focus on the environment and sustainability. The first phase is already completed. In the remaining three, until 2030, we will build terraced houses, rental apartments, a preschool, a mobility centre and a new bathhouse.

The area includes Helsingborg Central, the Lund University – Campus Helsingborg area, several port areas, Ramlösa station and the residential areas in between. The aim is to promote sustainable urban development.

Port of Helsingborg Relocation
The Port of Helsingborg is the second largest container harbour in the Nordic region. Until 2028, we are investing SEK 1 billion to move the entire container harbour and combined terminal further south, allowing the port to expand for another 40 years. At the same time, switching to fully electrically powered container handling. It also allows the City of Helsingborg to develop up to the waterfront.

Gåsebäck – developing an old industrial area
Just south of the city centre is Gåsebäck, an industrial area with small-scale operations. We are creating a mixed neighbourhood with housing, businesses and green areas here. The Rehouse concept already exists here – mobile apartment blocks with a circular approach on a temporary building permit. There is also the old fire station, which now serves as an incubator for the urban transformation of the area.

Östra Ramlösa – The most child-friendly neighbourhood in Sweden
Five kilometres from the city centre, we are building Sweden’s best district for families with children – Östra Ramlösa. Our starting point is 100-year-old tree avenues and the winding Lussebäcken stream. There will be apartment blocks, townhouses, terraced houses and villas starting in 2025. But also schools, preschools, sports halls, services, activity parks and attractive walking, cycling and riding paths. The City of Helsingborg and Region Skåne have agreed to build a new hospital at one end of the area.

A vacant centrally located area when the hospital relocates
When Helsingborg’s hospital is relocated in the next 10 or 20 years, a whole area will remain to be developed. The centrally located site has excellent communications and a view of the Öresund. What will happen to the prime location is still an unknown quantity. The new hospital will be located in Östra Ramlösa, a new residential area east of the city centre.

Commuting location next to the new Maria station
Mariastaden in northern Helsingborg has expanded considerably in recent decades, with housing, schools, sports centres and services. Next, the area closest to the train line at Maria station will be developed starting in 2026. At the same time as we plan for housing, services and new streets, the entire station will be rebuilt to support the West Coast Line expansion to double tracks and increased commuter traffic.

Housing for families with children in the station towns
The City of Helsingborg is focusing on strengthening towns with a train station outside of the city centre, as around 30% of the housing built in Helsingborg will be located in other areas, primarily in locations with train connections, but also in other larger towns. The focus is on creating child-friendly environments. By 2027, 1,500 homes will be built.
